Hey there guys!

What software do fashion designers use when creating blue prints for, trying different ideas - be it for shoes, accessories or clothes

Btw this forum is great!

I generally use Illustrator even as a substitute for a pencil when I have my initial idea for a garment. The programme allows for accurate representation by creating a flat or technical drawing but also can be used as an Iterative design tool (quickly creating variations of a design) I even use it as a serendipitous visualisation aide to create "designs by accident"
Hope this helps

Heather & Daniel,

Old school designers use paper and pencil, but prowd is right, Illustrator seems to be the new tool of choice.

There is a teacher on Lynda.com that is very good. Here's the link to the course:
http://www.lynda.com/Illustrator-tutori ... cttypeid:2

You could sign up for a free trial to check out her courses. I think you'll find them useful. She also has a book on her website.

I use those tutorials and that's the basic learn design from my tutor. I still use those ways to create my design, but still on my learned. you may try those ways, it'll lead you in different style of design.

I acknowledge the traditional design approach.
