selection issue on 3D pattern - related to avatar normals?

Ask about specific settings, like fabric properties, or the difference between the sewing tools. These would be things you would expect to see in a software manual.

selection issue on 3D pattern - related to avatar normals?

Post by sicklyrunt »

Hey,

I’m quite experienced with MD but I’ve got a problem that I can’t fix.

In the picture attached, you can see that the avatar has these black squares all over it, aligned with polygon boundaries on a quad mesh:

Also it’s impossible to select the garments when this avatar is in use. (Avatar was imported at “ft.” scale, with the scale slider set to 300%)

If I delete the avatar, the garments can once again be selected.

This, and the weird pattern on the mesh, make me think it’s related to normals being flipped on some polygons, so that MD thinks the garments are “inside” the mesh and can’t be selected. However I’ve checked the alembic in different software and iIt renders as expected, leading me to believe that the normals are correctly oriented. Or maybe it's related to the scaling of the avatar when I imported it....

Any help with this?

Thanks

I had this problem a very long time ago with an imported avatar. I think it was Make Human at the time. I don't recall the fix, sorry.
