seams lost on export?

Ask about specific settings, like fabric properties, or the difference between the sewing tools. These would be things you would expect to see in a software manual.

seams lost on export?

Post by Bart van Doornik »

Hi,
first post here.
I am new to MD. modeled a simple object. Exported this as fbx.
All is nice, except i am missing the seams showing in MD. I know the seams in MD are just viewport settings.
Is there a way to get seams out of MD . Without seams all is missing realism.
What is the way to do this?

Thanks,
Bart

The seams you are referring to in MD are created with a normal map in the program. It is a function of the program texture render and not part of the exported geometry.

These normal maps are accessible, if you want to try to use them elsewhere. Here is the path on a Windows machine:
C:\Program Files\Marvelous Designer 9 Personal\Preset\Sewing\Stitch_NormalMap

There are lots of other interesting items in these files, too. Have fun exploring!

Thanks Lori,
That is great. I was hoping for a normal map. Problem will probably be that I can't change the uv map after export..
I will look into it

Thanks

ah, i miss understood.
It is just the image maps for the stitch./seams.
Is there a way to get a normal map out of MD of my mesh on that UV . So the seams are in the right place on a normal map?
How do you create seams outside MD?

I use Blender. I export MD patterns without thickness and each piece separate and then I apply a solidify modifier in Blender.
