MD export - UV unwrapping in Blender is so messy

Ask about specific settings, like fabric properties, or the difference between the sewing tools. These would be things you would expect to see in a software manual.

MD export - UV unwrapping in Blender is so messy

Post by mishamisha »

Hi guys,

I recently exported a jacket to Blender and used the UV unwrap tool in Blender to map the UVs. However, I keep getting this mess in the links below. It's so choppy and there are so many itty bitty parts in the UV map - and when I export it to Substance Painter, the jacket has choppy tears on the inside (but looks intact from the outside). Why is that?

Is it because my jacket is too complicated in MD so the UV map looks like a mess? I used double layers (clone layer below) on my clothes just to give it more thickness, and also sewed tiny hems onto everything. Is that it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Out of curiosity, what was wrong with the UVs as they came out of MD?
I use MD in Blender and usually just go with its UVs which are set out however your cloth is.
I may rescale the UVs, but I usually don't touch them otherwise.
